Report: Spurs face competition from Saudi club to sign prolific striker

Tottenham might not have things their own way in their pursuit of Jonathan David, with reports now emerging that Saudi Arabian side Al-Ahli are plotting a move for the Lille star.

Jonathan David continues to be linked with Spurs

Over the past few days, a number of sources have said that Tottenham is seriously considering signing David, who is rumored to be available for a low cost as he approaches the last year of his Lille contract (Football.London).

Football Insider said on Monday that Spurs have already gotten in contact with the striker’s agents over a possible summer transfer to N17.

According to the source, Chelsea and the Lilywhites are the two teams vying for the 24-year-old’s signature. The Blues are also rumored to have had conversations with the player’s entourage.

Apart from those two teams, there have been hints in recent days that the Lille star is also being watched by West Ham and Manchester United (BBC Sport).

Saudi interest in Jonathan David

It now appears that in order to sign David this summer, Spurs may also need to defeat competition from the Middle East.

Al-Ahli are reportedly eager to add to their forward line before the upcoming campaign and are prepared to move forward with a move for the Canadian international, according to Sports Zone.

The article goes on to say that, despite Lille’s need to sell David in order to cover their losses, the Saudi Pro League team has declared David one of “their priorities” for the summer.

At this point in his career, Tottenham and the other Premier League suitors would be hoping that David would not want to move to the Saudi league.

Al-Ahli, though, are more than capable of presenting the 24-year-old with a contract offer he cannot reject.
