The BBC reports that Everton has received a new bid for center-back Ben Godfrey from Lyon that is valued at £12.7 million.
On June 27, the British broadcaster revealed on its website that Atalanta and the Ligue 1 team are both interested in the 26-year-old.
Godfrey, who paid £25 million to come to Goodison Park in 2020, has one more year remaining on his contract with the team.
Everton must stick to their £15million valuation
Given the interest expressed by Lyon, Atalanta, and several other Premier League teams in the 26-year-old, the Toffees are forced to maintain their £15 million estimate for him. [HITC]
The fact that additional teams are vying for his signing indicates that there is a real market for the player and that the Toffees have a fair price for him.
They run the danger of undervaluing the English defender and possibly losing out on a larger amount if they drop their asking price.
In addition, the club has to get as much money as they can from Godfrey’s sale, especially in light of their current financial struggles.
Selling him for less than they are worth would be a loss on a chance to get desperately needed money.
Furthermore, by maintaining their valuation, the Merseyside team is letting rival teams know that they are not in a rush to sell and are prepared to wait for a reasonable fee.
