Following his outstanding performances at Euro 2024, Newcastle United is reportedly one among the clubs closely monitoring Georgian striker Georges Mikautadze.

Football Insider report that Toon scouts have been alerted by his form in Germany, where he’s currently the tournament’s top scorer on three goals after firing his country to a 2-0 victory over Portugal last night. The same piece states that Borussia Dortmund, Napoli, Monaco, Lyon and Marseille are also considering a summer move for the 23-year-old, who is thought to be available for a fee in the region of £21m.

It’s an easy story to write given his age, eye-catching form and affordable price tag, coupled with the fact Newcastle are in the market for a striker this summer with Callum Wilson set to leave. However, he does come into the Euros on the back of an impressive season in Ligue 1, scoring 14 goals in 22 appearances for Metz. I’m dubious on this one – I doubt Newcastle would sign someone purely off the back of a few impressive group stage displays – but it might be a different kettle of fish if the club were tracking him long before the Euros.
