We now know the last 16 draw and bracket as we head into the knockout stages in Germany thanks to last night’s final Euro 2024 group stage matches.
England, who will now play Slovakia, received a favorable draw, but it also puts a number of Newcastle players in danger of injury as Kieran Trippier, Anthony Gordon, Fabian Schar, and Martin Dubravka all made it out of their respective groups.
Trippier and Gordon are scheduled to play Dubravka’s Slovakia on Sunday at 5 p.m. at the AufSchalke Stadium in Gelsenkirchen, as the last 16 matches and bracket are displayed below. The victors will next play either Italy or Switzerland, so if England defeats Slovakia and the Swiss defeat the Italians in Sunday’s 8 p.m. game, Schar might be up next for Trippier and Gordon:
After three poor performances in the group stages, England will need all the assistance they can get. However, it’s important to note that we’ve drawn the right side of the field, with Spain, Germany, Portugal, France, and Belgium in the top half.
Four Newcastle players, or one each from Romania, Slovenia, the Netherlands, Austria, and Turkey, are in the bottom half. Those from the Czech Republic, Georgia, England, Slovakia, Switzerland, or Italy will advance to the July 14 final in Berlin.
The last 16 lineup that we might see is as follows, based on the bookies’ odds:
Germany versus Spain
France versus Portugal
Austria versus the Netherlands
Italy versus England
Though, as we all know, things are seldom that easy, let’s hope England steps up and takes advantage of yet another advantageous draw.
