Newcastle United centre-back Fabian Schar has admitted he is desperate not to lose one of the key figures at the club.

A few Newcastle players, including the Switzerland international, haven’t been able to enjoy their summer holiday because of the continuing international competitions.

But when England plays Switzerland in the European Championship quarterfinals on Saturday, at least one of Eddie Howe’s players will be sent home.

In Dusseldorf, Fabian Schar will face Anthony Gordon and Kieran Trippier, two teams vying for a spot in the last four.

However, the center back for Newcastle has already acknowledged that he hopes to see one of the important players at the team stay a little bit longer.

Fabian Schar comments on future of key Newcastle figure

Newcastle has already lost two of its talented young players this summer as a result of the PSR fiasco.

Two players were sacrificed at St. James’ Park in order to balance the books: Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh.

But, with Alexander Isak and Gordon being strongly linked to transfers away, there were genuine concerns about losing a player who was even more vital to the team.

Schar, the defender, fears losing to someone else on Tyneside, though.

Schar addressed Howe’s future and his connections to succeeding Gareth Southgate as England manager in a Friday interview with the Daily Mail.

Schar stated, “I genuinely hope he stays at Newcastle.”

“Because he has a lot of quality and knows how to manage a big club and a big team, as evidenced by the work he has done at Newcastle over the last few years.”

He has performed really well for me as well. I’m overjoyed to have him as my manager. The only thing that comes to mind is that hopefully he stays at Newcastle.”

Eddie Howe could replace Gareth Southgate as England manager

After this summer’s Euros, there are a lot of doubts about whether Southgate would announce his resignation as England’s manager.

The supporters have expressed their dissatisfaction with the manager’s strategies as England has stammered through the competition thus far.

His replacement has been suggested by several people in the rumors surrounding his future.

Furthermore, according to the Mail story, Howe is probably the FA’s first choice for the position in the event that Southgate steps down.

The Newcastle players are obviously hoping that this move doesn’t materialize in the upcoming months.
