The Athletic reports that Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe is still interested in Nottingham Forest star Anthony Elanga and wants to strengthen his right-wing options this summer.
Miguel Almiron is anticipated to leave for Saudi Arabia shortly, thus it is rumored that the Toons would devote a sizeable amount of their transfer budget to the role.
Newcastle also had to sell Yankuba Minteh to Brighton & Hove Albion in order to balance their finances because they were worried about breaking the Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) of the Premier League.
Newcastle’s #1 target, Elanga, is still there due to his strong play in the previous campaign. The youthful winger was instrumental in Forest’s battle to avoid relegation, scoring five goals and dishing out nine assists (resulting in 14 great opportunities created).
The hard-running style of the 22-year-old will mesh well with Howe’s outlook. He is a continual threat on the wings and puts in a lot of defensive effort, both of which the manager values.
But Forest is unlikely to part with Elanga after just one season at the City Ground. With a contract that extends until 2028, they recently acquired him from Manchester United for about £15 million, giving the Tricky Trees significant negotiating leverage.
Newcastle is said to have also considered the names of Jarrod Bowen of West Ham United and Noni Madueke of Chelsea.
Madueke had mixed results for Chelsea in the previous season, but he is a bright young player with a ton of potential.
Despite being an excellent dribbler, he still has to improve his finishing touch (he finished the previous season with five goals and two assists in 23 Premier League games).
After signing multiple right-wing options in the last year, Chelsea might be willing to sell, increasing the likelihood of a trade.
But Bowen is the superior choice when taking into account his productivity, consistency, and experience.
The West Ham forward, who played center forward and right-wing last season, finished with 16 goals and 6 assists (12 great chances created).
The Magpies have had their eye on Bowen for a while, but his cost may prove to be a deal-breaker.
Newcastle is obviously focused on the right wing, and they’re determined to locate the ideal addition to their possibilities for attacking.
