The two are getting ready to leave the £300 million Saudi-backed takeover, where Staveley was instrumental in securing funding from the PIF and arranging a deal with Mike Ashley, according to a shocking article by George Caulkin of The Athletic.
After the takeover in October 2021, Staveley acquired a 10% initial holding in the club; however, she has since sold the Reuben brothers part of those shares, reducing her ownership.
“All parties have reluctantly concluded that the time is right for Staveley and Ghodoussi to step back and sell their shareholding and for the club to move on,” writes Caulking in his article for The Athletic. “With the appointments of Darren Eales as CEO and Paul Mitchell, our new sporting director, the club is taking on more of a corporate structure.”
Though Eales is still involved behind the scenes—she was involved in the first discussions with Man Utd on Dan Ashworth’s salary—many of her original duties are believed to have been assumed by Eales.
We would want to thank Staveley and Ghodoussi for everything if this does really signal the end of their stay on Tyneside. They endured years of suffering under Mike Ashley, but we will always remember their dedication, fortitude, enthusiasm, and interaction with supporters.
