Everton star Jordan Pickford once again featured heavily for England last night, as they turned around a 1-0 deficit to beat the Netherlands 2-1 and secure their spot in the Euro 2024 final.
Admittedly, international football is something plenty of football fans try not to concern themselves with, particularly on Merseyside.
However, there was undoubtedly a swell of pride last weekend when Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold slammed home the winning penalty against Switzerland after Jordan Pickford had saved from Manuel Akanji. Ironically, the city of Liverpool had provided England with yet another iconic moment. However, in reaching the final of another major tournament, true history now awaits for the Three Lions.

One of the liveliest goalkeepers in the Premier League, Pickford has considerably more personality and less inhibitions than the majority of the media-conditioned masses of today.
He is both admired and ridiculed for his willingness to display his wilder side, particularly when playing.
Micah Richards, for instance, complimented Pickford on his England exploits, but he had to provide some advice first.
Though he likes playing for Everton, the former Sunderland keeper may even adore playing for England. When things are going well, though, there’s nothing better than witnessing the former goalie’s beaming grin, waving his arms in excitement or pulling tongues at the camera.
This was partially demonstrated by the ten-word Instagram message he sent on Instagram after yesterday night’s victory: “One more to go!” I adore this band! ENGLAND, COME ON.

If it weren’t for his colleagues’ mishandled penalties against Italy, Pickford would already be considered an all-time great in England’s eyes.
After all, in a European Championships final no less, saving two penalties in one shootout was worthy of such a distinction.
Unfortunately, it was not meant to be. However, they will have another opportunity for atonement this Sunday, and the 30-year-old goalie will be motivated to make this one memorable.
After all, throughout his time as the nation’s top player, a great deal of England records have already been broken, but he has yet to win that elusive major championship.
England would win their first-ever European Championship championship and their first significant victory since Sir Alf Ramsey led them to the 1966 World Cup final if they defeated Spain.
Pickford, Harry Kane, Gareth Southgate, and several others have a legacy to leave behind. This weekend, let’s see if they can provide a show on the grandest stage of them all.
