The Catalan media has been reporting about Barcelona’s intention to buy Everton’s Amadou Onana for months. He’s reportedly considered the Catalan club’s top midfield option, but the desire has been overshadowed by financial realities.

The idea that the Blaugrana would have to wait to move on the Everton player until they sell players has been put out by the Catalan press.

According to Sunday’s issue of Mundo Deportivo, Deco, the sporting director, has singled out Onana as Plan A for Barcelona.
However, since Aston Villa is expected to close a deal, their plans are now nullified.

Barcelona is a little disappointed because that eliminates their main alternative, but they are now unable to match the money that Unai Emery’s team is offering, which is estimated to be in the neighborhood of £50 million.

Mikel Merino of Real Sociedad is thought to be an alternate target, therefore other targets will need to be taken into account. It’s interesting to note that before Emery refuted it, Aston Villa had also been connected to the former Newcastle United player.
