Newcastle United sound out move for Xavi Simons; Bayern Munich, RB Leipzig lead chase

Newcastle United have made ambitious enquiries about Xavi Simons. Bundesliga pair RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich are current favourites.

Fabrizio Romano claims that Newcastle United has made tentative approaches to PSG’s playmaker Xavi Simons in an attempt to acquire him. The 21-year-old Dutchman is still keen to leave the Parisians, with Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig touted as the front-runners. His stock has increased significantly over the previous 12 months or so.

Newcastle United made Xavi Simons enquiry

Newcastle United will now test the market to bolster its team, having navigated a challenging time to earn money through player sales and meet PSR responsibilities. Before the new season begins, Eddie Howe wants to add a few major players, but it’s unclear if they will have the financial wherewithal to do so.

They also couldn’t replicate the feat of Champions League qualification, which would have further cut into their revenues. The absence of elite European football might prevent them from acquiring elite players, like as PSG’s Xavi Simons.

Simons has made the decision to depart the Parisians this summer after a great season on loan with RB Leipzig, where he combined to provide 25 goals and assists. The rumor is that PSG will sell the 21-year-old Dutchman for about £52 million, despite allegations that the player is seeking over £70 million. It is unclear if Newcastle United would receive a positive answer from the player’s camp.

Fabrizio Romano announced on his YouTube channel that Newcastle United is indeed interested. Unsurprisingly, the transfer expert from Italy stated that even with the financial resources, Leipzig and Bayern Munich were the teams most likely to recruit the playmaker, meaning the Magpies were not the favorites in the race.

Romano said,  “Let me tell you that another club that asked for example for information on Xavi Simons was Newcastle to understand the situation of the player, but again, it was few days ago, not months ago,”

“And this is why Leipzig and Bayern remain the two favourites.”

Leipzig or Bayern for Simons

If Simons left PSG, Barcelona was thought to be the team he would most like to join. Bundesliga teams Leipzig and Bayern may have positioned themselves as the favorites because the Catalans are unlikely to make the required payments.

Given that Leipzig is in the Champions League and Simons is already familiar with the system, he could choose to remain here. Though a lot will rely on whatever team can pay PSG the amount they want for the player, the Dutchman may find it fascinating to join Bayern and play with players like Leroy Sane, Jamal Musiala, and recent addition Michael Olise.
