Before going on loan from Newcastle United later this summer, Garang Kuol will get one more chance to make an impression on Eddie Howe.
The Magpies are now in Germany as part of their preseason schedule, working out at Adidas’ global headquarters in Herzogenaurach. Along with a few young players, all of the fit non-international players are in attendance.
It was during the post-season tour to Australia that Kuol, a 19-year-old, made his debut, that he was one of the players called up.
Kuol, who replaced a player in the second half of the match, scored his penalty and helped Newcastle win the penalty shootout 5–4. However, his first appearance was forgettable as the inexperienced Magpies club lost 8-0 to the A-League All Stars.
January 2023: Not much more than a month after he qualified for the World Cup knockout stages, becoming the youngest player to do so since Pele in 1958, Howe’s squad recruited the adolescent winger from Central Coast Mariners, an A-League team.
In Scotland, Kuol participated in league play for 197 minutes. Not only that, but in the Netherlands, where he last played in a competitive game in November, he has only started eight of his fifteen league games and scored one goal.
