Everton have now been handed a blow after interest from Manchester United caused a target’s price tag to soar.
The Toffees are anxious to recruit Aaron Wan-Bissaka from the Red Devils this summer, but in the meanwhile, supporters at Goodison Park may be disappointed as Manchester United joined them in wanting to buy a Colombia international.
Let’s take a look at the Everton target Manchester United is currently looking to sign.
Manchester United make Everton target Richard Rios more expensive
According to a recent UOL article, Everton is eager to recruit Palmeiras’ Richard Rios, a Colombian who excelled in the Copa America this summer.
According to the South American news source, Leicester City and Palmeiras were both considering offers around £16.8 million.
But now Manchester United has made things more difficult for Everton.
Given the prominence of Manchester United and the club’s financial clout, Palmeiras have had to reevaluate their asking price, according to Spanish news source Sport, which claims Erik ten Hag’s team is now eager to sign Rios.
It is said that Palmeiras are now only going to consider offers which meet the Colombian’s €90m (£77.4m) release clause – and will no longer entertain any bids in the region of £16.8m due to Manchester United’s interest.
Sport add that AC Milan and Juventus are also keen to sign Rios – so Everton’s chances of agreeing a deal now appear to be slim.
Palmeiras will surely reconsider
We believe that Palmeiras will reevaluate their position later in the summer.
After helping Colombia advance to the Copa America final, the 24-year-old’s worth has skyrocketed, and Palmeiras may not find a better time to sell in order to get the best price.
We don’t think any teams will continue to be interested after learning the new asking price of £77.4 million for a player from the Brasileiro Série A, even with the South American’s outstanding Copa America.
That may lead Palmeiras to reconsider, or else the Brazilian giants risk missing out on the chance to secure a premium fee for Rios this summer after his heroics at the Copa America.
