According to Ben Jacobs, Newcastle United’s move for Dominic Calvert-Lewin is not dead just yet, with the club prepared to revisit a deal if the Everton forward lowered his salary demands.

When Everton tried to recruit Yankuba Minteh at the end of June, the striker was linked to a transfer to St James’ Park; however, the deal fell through due to personal differences. A month later, with Callum Wilson out due to injury once more and him having an expiring contract next summer, it may be one to keep an eye on later in the transfer market, according to Eddie Howe.

Additionally, Jacobs says that Nottingham Forest’s Anthony Elanga is a player they “love” and a “big target,” but the Swedish international is certain to stay at Nottingham Forest after the club turned down a part-exchange offer that included Elliot Anderson a month ago.

Finally, the journalist states that we have spoken about Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah during recruiting meetings, stating that the center-back’s name has come up as we try to add another right-sided alternative.

Jacobs on Calvert-Lewin (NUFC Matters Transfer show)

“If agreements could be worked out with Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Newcastle would still purchase him. However, in the days before the PSR deadline, when Everton, Minteh, and Calvert-Lewin were all leaving, that was not possible.

“I’m told that at this point they’re not in active talks to reignite that Calvert-Lewin deal, but just because things go quiet doesn’t mean Newcastle won’t return.”

Jacobs on Elanga Forest Fan TV:

“Elanga is loved by Newcastle, and they first attempted to include Elanga in the Elliot Anderson trade. Newcastle has made Elanga a top target, but they haven’t made any progress and Forest isn’t willing to sell.

Jacobs on Chalobah (GiveMeSport)

In addition to talking about Chalobah, Newcastle United needs a right-sided center defender since Jamaal Lascelles will be sidelined until the end of the season due to an anterior cruciate ligament injury. Although the Magpies won’t play in Europe next season, they are in a strong position to contend for it eventually.

If recruited as a squad player with a top-tier right-winger, Elanga may be a very useful substitute for Miguel Almiron, but it appears Forest is not in a haste to offload him. If Calvert-Lewin is asking for large sums of money, it’s best to stay away from him; but, if he drops his demands, it seems like he’s someone to keep an eye on.

Regarding Chalobah, he’s a talented player who might develop under Howe and provide our right-sided center-back unit more athleticism, but is he truly the long-term replacement for Fabian Schar that we’ve been waiting so long for? I’m not really certain.
