Since so many major European teams, along with a few smaller ones in the Premier League, are interested in the 23-year-old virtuoso after he scored 18 goals and provided 13 assists in his breakout season, Celtic’s main focus has been on ensuring that they trade star midfielder Matt O’Reilly for the best price.
If Celtic doesn’t get a good enough offer, they should ideally not even consider selling their best player. They are also concerned about Reo Hatate, another important midfield player, drawing a lot of attention from vultures in the Premier League.
Lagerbielke never got a real chance
Gustaf Lagerbielke, a 24-year-old center defender, is one of the gifted players who Celtic would be more willing to let go of for a reasonable price.
Although there is nothing fundamentally wrong with Lagerbielke as a player, a lot of supporters may feel that the Swedish international was never given a fair chance to play defense against the formidable Scottish team.
However, spaces are limited, so perhaps this summer is the ideal time to let Lagerbielke go, especially since Serie A teams Hellas Verona and Parma are reportedly interested in him, according to Swedish outlet Sportbladet.
Lagerbielke could be good in Serie A
Lagerbielke may play defense for both Italian teams; with his skill and potential, he might potentially start games and grow into a good player.
In the Scottish Premiership last season, Lagerbielke made just four starts and three further appearances. He didn’t even log 408 minutes for Celtic, the eventual league winners.
Celtic should push for five million euros
Transfermarkt values the 24-year-old at 2.5 million euros, but Celtic is hoping to negotiate twice that amount. Given that many Serie A teams are interested in him and that more teams may emerge down the road, this is a realistic objective.
It’s possible that Brendan Rodgers and company decide to give the interesting Lagerbielke another shot in the team, but Celtic may also take their time selling these young, possibly important youngsters to other teams.
