Newcastle United are set to sign Rory Finneran, but another 16-year-old they targeted is heading elsewhere.
Rory Finneran will be joining Newcastle United this summer in an attempt to bolster the Magpies’ junior ranks after leaving Blackburn Rovers.
It’s quite the coup to sign the adolescent midfielder since Finneran has a tremendous talent. As they get ready to finalize a deal for a youngster who made his senior debut for Blackburn at the age of 15, Newcastle United will have big expectations for him.
While Finneran is his route to St. James’ Park, Fabrizio Romano has given a depressing update regarding a another young player the Magpies attempted to recruit.
Newcastle United miss out on wonderkid striker
Earlier this month, it was reported that Chido Obi-Martin, a 16-year-old striker who was expected to depart Arsenal, had discussions with Newcastle United.
The adolescent will not be joining Eddie Howe’s team, but he is leaving Arsenal now for sure.
Obi-Martin, on the other hand, is traveling to Manchester United.
Fabrizio Romano stated as much in a post on X, saying, “Chido Obi Martin to Man United, here we go! Brilliant striker departs Arsenal and has accepted a proposition from Manchester United. Chido’s path is crucial because he declined bigger offers from Germany to join Manchester United. Project persuaded a top talent born in 2007 to embrace the #MUFC.
Newcastle really could have benefitted from Obi-Martin
Obi-Martin has been given a clear pathway to the Manchester United first-team, and it will be interesting to see his progress in the coming years. It is disappointing to see Newcastle miss out, as the Magpies really need a talented forward who can grow and develop into a first-team star at St James’ Park. If Obi-Martin had moved to Tyneside, there would be a clear path for him to eventually compete with Alexander Isak and possibly even become his successor.
Although Newcastle’s academy produces several excellent players, a striker capable of scoring goals at the highest level has not emerged in a while.
Obi-Martin appears set to do that, but it will be in Manchester United’s red uniform rather than Newcastle’s black and white.
Newcastle fail to sign another Arsenal youngster as Obi-Martin heads to Man United
After negotiations with Newcastle, Obi-Martin has decided to join Manchester United, making him the second adolescent from Arsenal that the Magpies have failed to capture this summer.
Amario Cozier-Duberry piqued Newcastle’s interest as well, and news that he would not be re-signing with the Gunners caused much excitement.
Cozier-Duberry, nevertheless, has committed to Brighton rather than Newcastle. The 19-year-old has already made an impression in preseason play with the Seagulls, who pounced on him after Newcastle was forced to trade Yankuba Minteh to Brighton in order to resolve their PSR predicament.
