According to the PA news agency, Newcastle and Crystal Palace have begun negotiations over highly regarded England defender Marc Guehi.
It’s believed that the Magpies expressed interest in a player who is estimated to be worth over £60 million within the last week and had preliminary discussions about him.

Guehi, who played 29 games for the Eagles in all competitions the previous season, was suspended for just the seventh game of England’s seven games in the Euro 2024 finals, which was a quarterfinal victory over Switzerland.

The central defender has improved his reputation in Germany, and it is doubtful that the Magpies will be his only admirers. His current contract at Selhurst Park is set to expire in the summer of 2026.

Nonetheless, they will be hoping that their early strategy would give them an advantage over their competitors as they try to bolster a team that finished seventh in the Premier League the previous season and was denied European status due to Manchester United’s FA Cup final triumph.

The club completed the signing of Chelsea full-back Lewis Hall, who was on loan at St. James’ Park last season. They also brought in goalkeepers Odysseas Vlachodimos and John Ruddy, out-of-contract Bournemouth defender Lloyd Kelly, and Serbian youngster Miodrag Pivas. Overall, it has been a relatively quiet summer on Tyneside.

They had to put in a lot of effort to comply with Premier League sustainability and profitability standards, and they achieved this in part by selling striker Yankuba Minteh to Brighton and midfielder Elliot Anderson to Nottingham Forest for a combined sum of over £65 million.

With the new season just two weeks away, head coach Eddie Howe, who is now in Japan with his players ahead of Saturday’s preseason friendly against Yokohama F Marinos in Tokyo, will be hoping for a breakthrough.

In addition, the Magpies are rumored to be nearing a transfer for Sheffield United striker William Osula, 20, since Callum Wilson is expected to miss the start of the upcoming season due to a back issue.
