A ‘here we go’ from Fabrizio Romano prior to a signing being photographed on the shirt is as reliable indication that a transaction has been completed as any.
Fabrizio Romano said on X this morning that Will Osula’s transfer to Newcastle United is a “Here we go, confirmed,” with the player traveling to Tyneside for his physical.
Sheffield Wednesday will benefit by £10 million and might get a further £5 million in add-ons in the future when the 21-year-old signs a deal to play for Newcastle.
Although it’s a necessary addition, it’s hardly the one that will help Newcastle supporters forget about this frustrating summer.
Will Osula struggled last season in the Premier League
Callum Wilson and Alexander Isak will be replaced by the Denmark U21 international as backups, and as Wilson is expected to miss at least the opening match of the season, we anticipate Osula to be on the bench when Southampton visits St James’ Park in less than two weeks.
Osula played in 23 Premier League games for Sheffield United last season, although he was unable to score. But he did score three goals in two FA Cup matches.
But we must keep in mind that Osula was a member of one of the poorest sides that have played in the Premier League since Sunderland.
Osula has looked stronger and sharper in pre-season
The young player has scored two goals in friendlies so far this preseason for the Blades, and he appears stronger and more skilled than he did the previous year.
If he begins hitting the net, he may really give Wilson a serious competition now that he’s had a few months to recover from the Eddie Howe conditioning regimen.
Osula, who is 6’4″, could also heighten Newcastle’s offense. He may be a great asset at set pieces, providing the boys another target in the box in addition to Dan Burn and Sven Botman.
Therefore, even while it’s not a name that supporters would rush to the team store to get put on their jerseys, it’s a great coup.
