It has been a fairly quiet summer for Tottenham Hotspur so far, but their lack of activity may have just forced the hand of one club, who are now likely to cut the price of a player Spurs have been linked with.

Federico Chiesa’s price set to drop again

Federico Chiesa is in the last year of his contract, therefore Juventus is growing more and more eager to let go of him. However, despite widespread rumors in Italy that Tottenham was interested in signing the player, the Lilywhites have not made an official bid.

The most recent information on Chiesa’s circumstances comes from Corriere dello Sport, which claims that the player’s representative was in London attempting to persuade Chelsea or Spurs to make a bid for the Italian winger, who is considered surplus to needs by Juventus boss Thiago Motta.

Even with a lowered asking price of about €25 million (£21.3 million), Premier League teams—Manchester United, Arsenal, and Aston Villa among them—were unable to show any real interest in the player.

Juventus may now be prepared to accept a far lower offer for Chiesa, maybe as low as €15–17 million (£12.8–14.5 million) with a sell-on clause.

Are Spurs interested or not?

The beliefs of those in Italy who strongly believe Tottenham is nearing a signing of Chiesa and others closer to the club who refute these rumors seem to be very different.

Alasdair Gold of Football.London claims that Spurs officials are “non-plussed” by the rumors as there is “no truth” to the conjecture.

SportMediaSet, via CalcioNapoli24, had reported that a contract in the range of £25.3 million and £29.5 million was almost finalized.

Spurs Web Opinion

On paper, it seems like a great deal to get a player of Chiesa’s caliber for as low as £13 million, but there’s a reason why he’s currently so inexpensive.

It’s concerning that his injuries and subsequent form decline. To be honest, I believe it would be better if we gave Mikey Moore more playing time.
