A crucial part of the San Francisco 49ers’ secondary may be sidelined for an extended period of time.
At Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee, on Saturday during the Niners’ preseason game against the Tennessee Titans, cornerback Ambry Thomas had to be taken off the field. According to reports, Thomas injured his forearm during San Francisco’s 17–13 defeat.
Following the game, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan made a suggestion that Thomas’ ailment might not be temporary while speaking about the cornerback.
Shanahan remarked, “It will be some time,” in reference to Thomas’s recuperation journey.
Thomas was selected by San Francisco in the third round of the NFL Draft in 2021. The former Michigan player participated in 15 49ers games last season, making six starts. In his third season, Thomas recorded 43 total tackles and 1 interception.
The 49ers’ unofficial Week 1 depth chart has Thomas listed as the backup cornerback behind Pro Bowler Charvarius Ward and Deommodore Lenoir.
