Ange Postecoglou has admitted that he was very keen on bringing Dominic Solanke through the door right from the start of the summer, insisting that the striker will be a good fit for his system.

Spurs allegedly paid a club-record £65 million to acquire Solanke from Bournemouth following the Englishman’s stellar 2023–24 season, in which he scored 21 goals in all competitions.
Posteocglou will be hopeful that he can contribute with a large number of goals next season and help Spurs reach a top-four finish and beyond, as the center-forward is set to earn more opportunities at Spurs.
As usual, there have been some disagreements among Spurs supporters on social media on whether Solanke was Postecoglou’s primary objective or whether the team just chose to accept the 26-year-old.
Postecoglou wanted Solanke from the start
In response, the head coach of Tottenham has now said categorically that he wished to bring the former Liverpool player to Hotspur Way.
Postecoglou said to Football.London in response to a question on Solanke’s arrival: “He was obviously one I was very keen to get in.” Although it took some time to bring it across the finish line, I believe he will be a fantastic match for us given his skill set and stage of career. He will fit in well, in my opinion.
As previously mentioned, we lack some quality additions to both the squad and the team in that front third. He does that, for sure. We are happy to have him on board, and we will be working with him for a week and a half.
The 58-year-old said, “We identified him because he has the attributes we are looking for in terms of our position,” in response to the question of whether Solanke’s versatility and all-around game made him an appealing option. He provides us with some information that we most likely missed throughout the previous 12 months, especially when Richarlison was injured last year.
Richy was a very successful player for us while he was on the field, and it was clear that without him, we lacked a player with the same level of influence in the closing stages of games and in general play. Thus, I believe he will fit in well with us.
Spurs Web Opinion
Some have said that Tottenham overpaid for Solanke, but this is absurd given that the Englishman was much more expensive than Ivan Toney and other attackers would have been.
If Ange hadn’t been so interested in the 26-year-old, the club would not have paid a hefty price for him.
