Nottingham Forest are trying to finalise their squad ahead of next weekend’s big kick-off after signing a number of quality players this summer.
On Thursday night, the Reds defeated the Olympiacos, winners of the UEFA Conference League, 4-3 to cap off their successful preseason.
As Forest looks to start the Premier League season strong, all eyes will be on Bournemouth at the City Ground.
Since gaining promotion, Forest has played two opening-day matches against Newcastle and Arsenal, losing both of them.
Nuno Espirito Santo is under increased pressure to produce results since Forest has fared better this year than last thanks to the random fixture generator.
With less than a week until the season opener, Forest is still being connected to players, and the team is still actively considering a left-back.
Nottingham Forest want Ferdi Kadioglu
Before the transfer window shuts, the Reds will compete with Brighton and Southampton for the signature of Kadioglu, according to Sabah in Turkey.
It won’t be simple for the Reds to close a deal with a player who has already been linked to Manchester United.
Kadioglu checked in from NEC Nijmegen in 2018 and joined Fenerbahce in exchange for a nominal transfer fee.
He has improved as a player throughout his stay in Turkey, and at the age of 24, he is in demand by several Premier League clubs.
There appears to be little question that the club wants a left-back given that Bradley Locko of Brest has also been linked to Forest.
Brighton’s £25 million proposal for Kadioglu was turned down, therefore the Reds will need to go above and above in terms of a transfer cost in order to get him before the transfer window shuts.
Considering that Kadioglu was representing Turkey brilliantly at Euro 2024 just a month or two ago, Fenerbahce has a great bartering chip for their player.
Fenerbahce has made it very apparent that they don’t want to lose their top player, and it appears that this has put a sizable price on his head.
Last season, Kadioglu claimed five assists and three goals while playing left back. It is rumored that £35 million will be required to get rid of him this summer.
Forest would welcome a new left-back this summer
Nothing at all against Ola Aina, but he did have some discomfort during the previous season while only being able to participate in 22 of the 38 Premier League games.
There is also relatively little in reserve. Harry Toffolo is a competent enough professional, but perhaps the team needs better if Forest is to advance.
At 24, Kadioglu has the potential to be a long-term fixture at Forest and is one of the most sought-after players in Europe.
Once more, we believe that Forest has made a clear adjustment in approach in the transfer market, and it is encouraging to observe.
It is unclear if Forest has the financial resources to recruit a left-back and convince Kadioglu to join the team, but he would undoubtedly leap at the chance to play in one of the best leagues in Europe.
Kadioglu has received a lot of recognition for his play in recent years; past season, Spartak Trnava manager Michael Gasparik gave him special recognition.
When questioned about the Forest player’s performance from the previous season, he described him as “fantastic” and “quality.”
