According to Sky Sports writer Keith Downie, Newcastle United has launched a third attempt to sign Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi. The South London club is ‘under consideration’ of the offer.

Guehi made 29 appearances for Oliver Glasner’s team at Selhurst Park last season and performed admirably for England throughout their Euro 2024 heroics. According to reports, Palace rejected the Magpies’ second bid of £50 million last week, with the Eagles demanding a price tag of at least £65 million.

Newcastle has placed a third bid in an attempt to land their man and make sure they can keep Liverpool and Manchester United at bay as they compete for his signing. It is known that Palace is considering whether or not to accept the offer.

Newcastle Make Third Offer for Guehi

Guehi, who came up through Chelsea’s elite Cobham system, had two consecutive loan stints with Swansea City before making his senior football debut. Following these striking seasons in the Championship, Palace decided to move and signed the England international for £18 million in 2021.

The man from Abidjan has made 111 appearances for the South Londoners, where he has established a strong defensive relationship with Joachim Andersen. The 24-year-old may soon be moving up to a higher level as Newcastle is keen to get him so he can play with players like Sven Botman and Fabian Schar.

Commenting on Sky Sports’ X With relation to Guehi, Downie gave an update on the situation:

Following a ‘positive’ meeting between Newcastle sporting director Paul Mitchell and Palace co-owner Steve Parish, Downie reported last week that there was hope for a deal to be reached shortly. This suggests that this consensus may be near, especially given Palace’s obvious desire to profit while the player’s stock is high.

Although the amount Newcastle is putting out in its third bid is unknown, based on Downie’s phrasing, it seems likely to be far above £50 million, if not close to £65 million.

Newcastle Considering New Offer for Trafford

They’ve already had a £16m bid rejected

Howe is reportedly eager to find a long-term replacement for Nick Pope this summer in addition to adding a center-back to expand their options in this position. Due to a shoulder injury, Pope missed a significant amount of the previous season and, at 32, could be nearing the end of his elite career.

The Tynesiders are thinking about putting in a fresh bid for James Trafford of Burnley as a consequence. The Toon are keen to make another attempt to get the 21-year-old despite having previously had a £16 million offer for the shot-stopper rejected this summer. Arijanet Muric replaced Trafford in goal under Vincent Kompany’s Clarets last season, as Trafford lost his spot in the starting lineup.
