After the £10 million arrival exited the field during the Sela Weekender victory over Ligue 1 side, they were overcome with emotion.
William Osula has spoken out about how the Newcastle United supporters stunned him by surprising him with a standing ovation on his Toon debut.
The £10 million acquisition was warmly greeted after the 1-0 victory over Stade Brestois, and if he hadn’t been slightly offside, he may have even been celebrating his debut goal as he left the field. One of the undeniable benefits for Eddie Howe at the Sela Weekender was Osula’s brilliant showing, especially in a summer that hasn’t yielded any major newcomers.
Additionally, Osula has shared the experience that left him feeling as like he was choking as he saw his number appear and supporters stood up to give the 21-year-old incredible height.
“It was amazing, a great feeling,” Osula said to Chronicle Live. “I just looked up and saw everybody clapping me.” The kind reception I’ve received from the squad and supporters astounds me.
“Now that I’m working hard for Newcastle United, I can’t wait. I want to give them back for giving me this chance. I’m excited to give this club my all and work really hard.”
Osula, who has only scored six goals in his career during his time at Sheff United and Derby County, will now have to take against Newcastle in the Premier League. The strain at United won’t be as great for him because he played for the Blades throughout their relegation season the previous year and has excellent, seasoned professionals surrounding him.
The attacker responded, “Of course, I have targets in my head,” when asked if he had any particular appearance or goal goals targets in mind for Newcastle. It’s normal to have goals and aspirations, which is why I’m eager for the season to begin.”
Before the linesman’s flag was raised against the Ligue 1 team, the 6′ 4in star at least had a little taste of what it might be like to find the net at St James’ Park.
“I just ran towards the fans and everyone was happy, and it was an amazing feeling,” Osula remarked. “Now I can’t wait for that to be real.” I’ll play whatever game the gaffer tells me to play. Eddie Howe is trying to get me well. He has been very helpful in refining and improving the skills of several of the younger players here.
I hope to be able to participate in it. With the gaffer and the coaches here, I can only get better.”
The young Danish player acknowledges he is starting to feel more at home every day, but he must now wait to see what his role will be against Southampton on Saturday.
“I have only had a couple of training sessions and they are great guys,” the 21-year-old remarked. They wish to assist me and me a warm welcome. I’ll benefit from it more in the future. In the next weeks, there will be further training sessions. I’m just going to become better and wiser with time.”
When it comes to former Danish stars, Osula is in excellent company at Newcastle. Although he is too young to recall past favorites Peter Lovenkrands or Bjorn Kristensen, he nevertheless aspires to be another Danish superstar wearing a black-and-white jersey.
“I know there have been other players from Denmark that represent the club,” he remarked. I hope to have a role in that.”
