Dan Burn and Ben Brereton Diaz were involved in a half-time scuffle as the two players clashed at St James’ Park after the Chilean was at the centre of a bust-up that saw Fabian Schar red carded
A brawl broke out between Dan Burn and Southampton supporters in the tunnel at St James’ Park as their rivalry grew increasingly intense.
On Saturday afternoon, there was a heated altercation between the two teams in the North East, which escalated into the tunnel during halftime. Ben Brereton Diaz had to have Burn removed from him due to an altercation with the Chilean striker.
After Brereton Diaz bumped into Fabian Schar’s back and the defender thrust his head into Brereton’s, the players at Newcastle were not amused. The striker for Southampton promptly struck the deck, sending Schar out.
“Dan Burn waiting for Brereton Diaz in the tunnel then kicking off is class,” a supporter commented. “Can totally get behind Dan Burn going at it in the tunnel,” said another.
“Dan Burn scrapping in the tunnel Ben Brereton Diaz got them rattled,” someone another said. “Dan Burn giving Diaz the headbutt he deserves on the pitch in the tunnel,” said another. Return of My Center!”
Fara Williams stated on Final Score: “It’s obvious that Dan Burn is upset with the outcome. Both the soft one and the right one were there. He’s not obliged to do that. They lead 1-0 and are well-positioned.”
“There is movement from Schar toward Diaz, and you run the risk of being sent off as soon as you do that,” she continued. Even if the choice is hard, it is the right one.”
Joelinton gave the Magpies the lead even though they were down to 10 men when Alex McCarthy found Alexander Isak on the edge of the box with a perfect pass.
Joelinton came charging in and squared the ball to the Swede, who finished it in the bottom corner.
