Newcastle United will relish the tag of dark horses after being written off in the Premier League
Eddie Howe has pledged to try and disprove the opinions of several commentators as Newcastle United looks to advance as “dark horses” to the Champions League.
While Chris Sutton, Danny Murphy, Micah Richards, and Joe Hart do not believe Newcastle will finish in the top four, Jamie Carragher, Ally McCoist, and Tim Sherwood are among those who do not see Newcastle even improving on their seventh-place result from the previous season, much alone returning to Europe’s top table. It is a small contrast to the previous season, when Newcastle was favored more since they had strengthened their roster and had just qualified for the Champions League. But in the end, injuries destroyed that top-four attempt.
This season, Newcastle will have Nick Pope, Joelinton, Joe Willock, Sandro Tonali, and others back for an extended length of time, allowing Howe’s club to concentrate entirely on domestic affairs. However, ex-pros seem to have been swayed by the transfer activity that the Magpies’ opponents have conducted. Prior to the big kickoff, Manchester United, Spurs, Aston Villa, and Chelsea have reached agreements on transactions that might total as much as £574 million. On the first day of play, Newcastle, on the other hand, may field the same players that concluded the previous campaign against Southampton.
Newcastle hopes to add “difference makers” to the roster before the transfer window closes at the end of the month. Howe has made it clear that his team wants to return to the Champions League, even though they are considered outsiders. Newcastle has had four bids for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi rejected.
He said to reporters, “From our perspective, I would probably prefer to be that.” “When you look at the amounts invested this summer, we’re much behind what certain teams have put in, but it doesn’t mean anything and can cause the football club to adjust their expectations.
“People often refer to us as the world’s wealthiest club. We are in this situation because we were unable to spend the money.
“I adore our team, but I think it would be better for me to be the underdog who is overlooked and never gets picked. If that’s the story, then we’ll accept it and work to disprove everyone. Here, it is what we have consistently done.
