The competition has already produced some surprises, such as Division Two’s Spartans’ 1-0 victory over top-tier Ross County and Championship side Falkirk’s 2-0 success over Hearts.

The voting is slated to begin at around 5:00 p.m., although it may be postponed if the game in Glasgow’s east end ends in overtime or a penalty-kick shootout.

The competition’s sponsors Premier Sports 1 channel will air the final eight draw. Premier Player subscribers will be able to watch the draw live online.

As well as Falkirk and Spartans, Aberdeen, Dundee, Rangers, Dundee United or St Mirren, Motherwell or Kilmarnock and, of course, Brendan Rodgers’ men or the Easter Road club will be in the mix. The ties are due for the weekend of September 21/22. Hoops gaffer Rodgers won the trophy in three successive season in his first stint at Parkhead, beating Aberdeen 3-0 (2016), Motherwell 2-0 (2017) and the Dons again 1-0 (2018). Ange Postecoglou lifted his first piece of Celtic silverware when two goals from Kyogo Furuhashi shot down today’s opponents 2-1 in December 2021 and followed up with a 2-1 triumph over their Ibrox rivals with the Japanese striker claiming another double.
