HITC understands that Bayer Leverkusen defender Edmond Tapsoba has made his stance on his future clear this summer.
After an outstanding campaign in the Bundesliga, Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen have been busy this summer with the German giants hoping to retain their Bundesliga title after an outstanding campaign, which included an unbeaten title victory.
Multiple top players from the German side have been linked with a move away this summer including Ecuadorian defender Piero Hincapie, who was offered to Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur. The future of Edmond Tapsoba has also been up in the air, amid interest from the Premier League and the Saudi Pro League, and now the defender has made his decision.
Edmond Tapsoba makes decision on future amid Newcastle move
HITC has been informed by sources that Tapsoba is eager to stay with the German team this summer due to the high demand for his services.
Alonso’s all-conquering championship winners from the previous season featured the 25-year-old, and other teams have shown interest in the Burkina Faso center defense.
Although they are not the first to inquire, even this summer, HITC can reveal that Newcastle United has made an approach in recent days as they continue to search for a new central defense as the Magpies’ pursuit of Marc Guehi stalls.
The 25-year-old defender was also coveted by Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur, as previously noted, but HITC knows that Tapsoba showed little interest in making a transfer to
HITC is aware of Tapsoba’s desire to play in the Champions League for Leverkusen, and it appears that signing him will be difficult for Newcastle.
Tapsoba not keen on move to Newcastle
As previously said, Newcastle could need to start considering other options for Guehi this summer. As we previously reported, Fulham and Palace have reached a deal for Joachim Andersen, which effectively implies that Guehi isn’t up for grabs.
Given the defender’s desire to stay with the German team, it is doubtful that Newcastle would sign Guehi or even Tapsoba.
The Saudi Pro-League has expressed interest in Tapsoba as well and has promised to raise Tapsoba’s salary to among the highest in the world of football defensemen.
Although HITC is aware that Al-Nassr is prepared to pay up to £50 million for the 25-year-old defender, the player has not demonstrated much of an interest in moving to the Middle East.
