Kieran Trippier is expected to remain at Newcastle United this week, despite ongoing rumors that the right-back will be moving to Turkey.
Fenerbahce, Beskitas, and Eyupspor are allegedly interested in the 33-year-old, and the Turkish transfer window is open until Friday. One journalist, Resat Can Ozbudak, even went so far as to say that he and Trippier had personal conditions agreed upon, although that is known to be untrue.
Since joining Newcastle from Atletico Madrid in January 2022, Trippier has shown himself to be a revolutionary addition. During his first 18 months, the team’s ascent from Premier League relegation to Champions League qualification coincided.
However, since the year began, there have been doubts about his future. Before Trippier’s calf injury prevented him from playing in nine of the final 12 games of the previous season, the Magpies turned down two offers from Bayern Munich in January.
After being promoted to the player leadership group, Trippier lost the captain’s armband to Bruno Guimaraes at the start of the season, behind Tino Livramento, who had started the first three Premier League games.
Although Trippier has reportedly expressed interest in leaving St. James’ Park after two and a half years, head coach Eddie Howe is reportedly blocking Trippier’s exit because he still holds the former England international in the greatest respect.
Howe has made it quite evident in his communications that he does not want to lose Trippier, and it is understood by NewcastleWorld that sports director Paul Mitchell has granted him this request.
“Yeah, I really want Kieran here,” Howe remarked following the Tottenham Hotspur victory, 2-1. That remains unchanged and never will. It’s the first I’ve heard about it, as I woke up to the [Turkey transfer] reports through a few texts like you do.
Newcastle believes they have two excellent right-backs in Trippier and Livramento who can improve each other’s play by fighting for a starting position. Weakening that is a reluctance, particularly with the English transfer window closed. A sizable offer would be necessary to alter that.
Trippier has stayed on Tyneside since declaring his retirement from international football last month, and he may start Sunday’s Premier League match against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
