Henderson, NevadaWith a dismal 0-1 record in the early 2024 NFL regular season, the Las Vegas Raiders will travel to Baltimore this week to take on the formidable Lamar Jackson and the Ravens.
An upset of the Ravens this weekend would be the easiest way to soothe the wounds after that heartbreaking defeat to the Chargers.
The Raiders are working hard in practice, and we’ve got four awesome practice highlights videos that were captured just now that will give you an inside look at how the Silver and Blacks are getting ready.
The following four practice highlight movies are available for viewing:
The text of Monday’s news conference with Coach Antonio Pierce may be seen below.
What’s new with Tyree Wilson?
Coach Pierce: “To be honest, I don’t. We were just discussing that now. He’s still in the medical agreement with Chris Cortez and them, but as far as I know, it’s a knee. I hope that knee is limited.”
Although I am aware that you like a ball control attack, are you also open to seeing a more aggressive offensive style?
“I think when you look at the offense, we look at the end result,” said Coach Pierce. In the pass game, a lot of plays were called that required aggressive field placement. Numerous factors come into play, including quarterback, men open, and protection. All of those factors come into play. Therefore, I want to maintain the freshness of our defense and be able to close out games in the fourth quarter, which is what we achieved, when I say ball control. Being physically strong and maintaining our identity at the line of scrimmage are important aspects of our game, and they weren’t yesterday. Up until the fourth quarter, when they shattered us, our defense held firm. It was an
Q: Charles Snowden started the game the day after he was added to the active roster. Could you just briefly discuss your decision-making process and what you observed from him in practice? What aspects of him did you find appealing during the game?
Coach Pierce: “We really created a roster of 53 players. He would have been the 54th man if we had 54. There he was, exactly. He performed really well in the preseason, in my opinion. Obviously, the bundle he was in on was the reason he started. Thus, I don’t think it was the main motivation behind his commencement, but he offers us a great deal of options. He is capable of playing defensive end, SAM linebacker, and core special teams player for us. So I felt he did a really decent job for the few reps he received throughout practice. He appeared. We had a sack, and I hope we could get the offsides penalty back.
What did you witness during the running game with Zamir White on tape? And how may that be fixed?
Coach Pierce: “We didn’t quite make it. We didn’t complete right away. Running backs need to maintain their trajectory, and we need to run with better pad level overall for our backs. We had breakthrough arm tackles on a few of these tackles, really. And we need to complete, I believe simply to be clear. We had to remain within our blocks. They really performed a fantastic job. Bravo to them. We didn’t complete plays or blocks like they did. And it has to begin with the players and us as coaches doing it.”
I understand that you are awaiting word on Tyree Wilson’s knee injury, but given that Malcolm Koonce is already on injured reserve and Tyree may miss some time due to this, how quickly can you guys bring in someone to potentially fill the hole at defensive end and edge rusher?
Coach Pierce: “It’s true that we quickly became slim. Right now, [Tom] Telesco is working on it.
Q: So far this weekend, Brock Bowers has the second-most receiving yards of any tight end. What did you think of his debut professional game and what he can offer going forward?
Coach Pierce: “I believe we only got a peek of what this guy is capable of.” It was his performance in the run game that truly thrilled me. I felt that he provided some excellent illustrations of some of the defensive blocks they had out there, 52 and 97. However, it is, once more, his first game as a rookie. It seems to me that he thought he had left a few yards behind. However, it was beneficial for him to settle into the game, make his first few receptions, produce some plays, advance the chains for us, and simply keep adding him to our strategy.”
I know we spoke about the fourth-and-one call last night, but do you ever question the call you made? Or how does that sort of unfold the course of that?
Coach Pierce: “I understand analytics and what has been happening, but then there are the balls at the eight-yard line.” At that point, our defense had only allowed 200 yards of total offense. That is our team’s strength.”
Q: Since you were hired, discipline has been your calling card. There were some penalties yesterday. Was it something you had to nip in the butt, or was it more of a first game going out?
Coach Pierce: “Yeah, we got two penalties, one of which cost us a lot since it was during a significant run. Then there was the offsides penalty, which resulted in a sack. Thus, there were two penalties throughout the match. It’s evident that the small incident near the end zone was the source of disappointment. And although I understand that we’re trying to keep our teammates safe, we never want to put ourselves in a situation where we can later face suspension, penalties, or even expulsion. Surely, we would prefer not to be that team? Furthermore, the Raiders’ past has always included that squad, but we don’t want that. Our people just need to use caution. Once more, I adore safeguarding one another and traveling there
Do you speak with your athletes when they encounter circumstances similar to Tyreek Hill’s?
Coach Pierce: “That is very difficult. In America now, I reasoned, you had to be astute, try your best to pay attention to what the cops say, and avoid placing yourself in that situation. Though I’m not fully familiar with all the details, I would advise our soldiers to exercise caution. The times have changed.
