According to reports, Newcastle is planning a January raid on Lille midfielder Angel Gomes, who is a great player for England.
After impressing on his Premier League debut following his call-up by interim manager Lee Carsley during the international break, Gomes has drawn attention from all over the league. He started in the 2-0 victory over Finland and looked like a seasoned midfield player against the Republic of Ireland.

The 2020 Old Trafford graduate, a former Manchester United player, will be eligible to sign a free agency deal the following summer, meaning teams might start pre-contract talks as early as January.

Newcastle is reportedly among the teams interested in Gomes. The Sun claims to be a big fan of the midfielder, who appeared at ease playing in midfield with Declan Rice at Wembley on Tuesday night.

The article also states that if Newcastle is serious in signing Gomes, they will have to contend with other bidders, with manager Eddie Howe up against competition from many teams.

Given that Lille will have to allow Gomes to depart for a reduced price or risk losing him for free at the conclusion of the season, it is reported that Liverpool, Tottenham, and Borussia Dortmund are all interested in making a bid for the player in the new year.

The article continues by stating that scouts from a “string of clubs” saw the player play the entire ninety minutes for England versus Finland.

Carsley lauded Gomes for taking the time to comprehend the tactical aspects of the game and stated he earned all the credit when questioned about his performance against Finland and his growth as a player.

“He deserves it so much,” Carsley remarked. “He loves football, he watches football, he’s interested in tactics,” he remarked. “He is familiar with every player in every league. You should be ready for him to provide you with comments on the session, our plan for building up, or the positions if you ask him for any.

“He’ll often say about some build-ups he’s done with other clubs, or what he’s played against, because he’s obviously playing in France, so he sees different things.”
