Garang Kuol, a teenage player for Newcastle United, had an unusual summer.
When Newcastle United traveled to Australia for two very contentious post-season friendly, the young Australian made his debut for the club.
Garang Kuol played in both matches, although it had less to do with the venue than it did with his ability to be an Eddie Howe first-team player.
The forward was still listed in the starting lineup as the preseason got underway. Up until a knee injury kept him out of the preseason journey to Japan, Kuol trained with Newcastle at Adidas HQ.
It was unclear what was going on with the 19-year-old from that point on. Although it seemed certain that a loan shift would occur, the departure was never disclosed.

The true events surrounding Kuol this summer have now been revealed in a new article, which also explains why the former attacker for the Central Coast Mariners was unable to gain a loan transfer out of St. James’ Park.
The Athletic claims that Kuol did not go on loan from Newcastle United after hurting his quad during practice.
According to reports, the adolescent suffered an injury that would keep him out of action for eight weeks and put a stop to negotiations about moving elsewhere.
According to The Athletic, Kuol was drawing interest from teams in Belgium, Portugal, and England; some of these teams were even considering offering him a long-term contract.
English loan would have been ideal for Kuol
Kuol’s season has been hampered by injury just when it’s most important that he starts to pick up steam and improve.
Loans to Volendam and Hearts did not go smoothly for reasons he could not control. He didn’t play enough, and his spot on the squad was eliminated by management changes.
Kuol’s progress has been hampered by those loan periods, thus it was critical that his third temporary leave go smoothly.
However, the transfer is currently on hold until January, so Kuol has to concentrate on returning to health and developing as a player on Tyneside. It may be advantageous for him to collaborate closely with Newcastle’s coaches instead of being sent to a different team.
Moving to an English club would have been great, but it is unfortunate that it did not work out.
Hopefully, that option will be available again in January, when Newcastle United will need to find a new home for a player whose fanfare has somewhat subsided since moving to the North East.
The sporting director will decide that, and one of Paul Mitchell’s main concerns is Kuol’s future.
