On Sunday, Newcastle United travels to Molineux to play Wolverhampton Wanderers in a match that will be aired by Sky Sports. Kickoff is at 4:30 p.m.
Newcastle doesn’t have the best record at Molineux; of their past six meetings, five have ended in draws and the sixth has resulted in a loss.
Newcastle had trouble playing away from home the previous season, something Eddie Howe has promised to change this year. Hopefully, Sunday will be the ideal opportunity to make up for those two mistakes.
We’ve drawn twice away from home this season, although one of those games did result in a victory through penalty kicks, so take it as you will.
Paul Merson has backed Newcastle to be too much for Wolves
Thankfully, we don’t risk it all by making our own predictions; instead, we defer to the experts, and Paul Merson has shared his prediction for the score via Sportskeeda.
“The wolves face severe challenges. In the struggle to stay in the league, they can wind up losing ground to rival clubs more rapidly than others. For them, this is a major game.
“To be honest, I felt Newcastle’s victory over Tottenham prior to the international break was quite lucky. Without a doubt, Spurs won that match. But let’s not take anything away from Newcastle; I still have to give them credit. It would be huge if Wolves won, but I don’t think it will happen.
“I still think Newcastle won’t be able to qualify for the Champions League. They’ve definitely scored more points than they should have this season, in my opinion. The following five teams are vying for fourth place: Newcastle, Aston Villa, Tottenham, Manchester United, and Chelsea. They will undoubtedly finish the race, but in my opinion, they will come up just short.
“Prediction: Wolves 1-2 Newcastle United”
So far a Newcastle win is the popular prediction
Mark Lawrenson also predicted a 2-1 victory for the Magpies on Sunday, so Merson is the second pundit to support the same outcome.
We would undoubtedly accept a victory away from home, and let’s face it—we ought to be defeating Wolves anywhere after they traded for Pedro Neto, their finest player. Not to be forgotten was their surrender to Chelsea in the second half.
All that remains to be seen is if Chris Sutton believes a clean sweep will result in the same result.
