Back in late July, it was widely reported that Newcastle United had beaten off competition from Manchester United and Liverpool for the signature of Blackburn Rovers Rory Finneran. However, despite the media reports/claims, I didn’t see anything official from Newcastle United in terms of confirming it, until now that is. Along with all the other Premier League clubs, Newcastle have had to announce their official 25 man senior Premier League squad. This has now been revealed, that 25 man senior squad getting released, along with the NUFC Under 21 players, amongst that latter list it includes 16 year old Rory Finneran (see both lists below).
Rory, who is 15 years, 10 months, and 8 days old, made his Blackburn debut on January 6, 2024, against Cambridge United in the FA Cup’s third round.
He is a defensive midfielder on the left flank and a young Republic of Ireland international. Born on February 29, 2008, Rory is also a leap year baby.
Let’s hope he can make rapid progress and get a spot on the squad.
I’m excited and hopeful about our long-term future after we signed players like Alfie Harrison and Rory Finneran, two young players with exceptional skill. They may also turn the club into a multibillionaire.
Harrison is someone to watch this season. According to my friend Coatsey from Holywell, he’s outstanding and will soon be vying for a spot on the starting squad.
Well done, Rory, young man. You’ve undoubtedly joined the correct group
