Leroy Sane, a winger for Bayern Munich, is reportedly being courted by Newcastle United, Arsenal, and Liverpool to return to the Premier League.
Clubs around Europe are showing interest in the 28-year-old winger as a result of the continuous uncertainty surrounding his Bayern Munich contract.
Sane’s current contract is scheduled to end in ten months, and Bayern has begun discussions with his representatives about an extension, but these conversations are subject to “collapse.”
That’s according to Football Insider, who assert that in order for Sane to stay with the Bundesliga’s biggest clubs, his pay “would have to be cut.”
Sane may thus be available for a free move the following summer, and Newcastle, along with Arsenal and Liverpool, are “keeping tabs” on his circumstances.
This summer, the Magpies were looking for a new right winger. On deadline day, they submitted a late £50 million deal for Anthony Elanga of Nottingham Forest, but it was turned down.
Raheem Sterling was brought in by Arsenal from Chelsea for a season-long loan, without the possibility of a permanent deal.
Depending on how he plays at the Emirates this season, the Gunners will decide whether to sign Sterling permanently. If he doesn’t measure up, they may go to Sane.
Liverpool, on the other hand, paid a low amount to recruit Federico Chiesa this summer, but if Mo Salah leaves Anfield while he is still in his last year of contract, they may buy another right-winger.
Newcastle battling for ex-Man City star
Sane is just one of the important players that Bayern Munich is eager to lock down to new contracts in order to stave off Premier League interest.
Jamal Musiala, an attacking midfielder, is another whose future is uncertain. Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool, and City of Manchester are all keeping an eye on him as his contract is about to end in 2026.
Sane and Musiala may leave Bayern for England in the summer since the team is unable to pay their players as much as Premier League teams.
Newcastle is eager to assemble a team that can contend for championships on a regular basis, so adding a player of Sane’s caliber would be a major declaration of purpose.
Following Anthony Gordon’s strong association with a summer transfer to Liverpool, they have developed an interest in the former Man City player.
Gordon would have gone to Anfield for £70 million, while Joe Gomez would have gone to St. James’ Park for £30 million, according to an agreement reached between Newcastle and Liverpool.
The agreement, which was only on the table because Newcastle had to follow Premier League financial regulations, was eventually abandoned after the Magpies decided to sell Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh.
The fact that Newcastle is interested in Sane may mean that Gordon is considering a move. Eddie Howe, however, could just be looking for him to replace Miguel Almiron, who isn’t in the manager’s long-term ambitions and was said to be moving to Saudi Arabia this summer.
Newcastle eye January swoop for England star
Newcastle is apparently exploring a January raid for Angel Gomes, an offensive midfielder who has been on fire for Lille since leaving Manchester United in 2020.
In their most recent Nations League wins against the Republic of Ireland and Finland, Lee Carsley gave the 24-year-old his first two caps for England.
Similar to Sane, Gomes’ contract is scheduled to expire at the end of this campaign, and as he has no plans to sign an extension, he may become a free agent in the summer of 2020.
However, it’s said that Newcastle intends to move on Gomes in January in order to sign him before the competition.
Adrien Rabiot, a midfielder available as a free agent, has also been linked to the Toon, but his £220,000 weekly salary demands are making a deal challenging for them.
Rabiot is hesitant to move to St James’ Park because he wants to play in Europe and since Newcastle did not qualify for the previous season.
Leroy Sane could be a big addition for Newcastle
After moving from Schalke to Man City in 2016, Sane made 135 appearances for the team, with 43 assists and 39 goals.
The German international won two Premier League crowns, two FA Cups, and three League cups during his four-year tenure with the Cityzens from 2016 to 2020.
He signed a £55 million contract to join Bayern in 2020, following reports of a falling out with Pep Guardiola. Since then, he has been one of the most crucial players for the German powerhouse.
Sane has made 175 appearances for Bayern thus far, with 50 assists and 48 goals. He shown his ability to generate opportunities last season by averaging 2.7 shots and 2.7 critical passes per game.
Although he hasn’t played yet this season due to groin surgery, he was listed as a reserve for Bayern’s most recent match against Holstein Kiel.
It will be intriguing to watch how this narrative unfolds and whether Vincent Kompany’s team is able to persuade Sane to accept a new contract at a lower salary. Sane might end up being a significant addition for Newcastle.
