After allowing 176 running yards to the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 1, the Las Vegas Raiders will need to tighten up the defense if they hope to escape a 0-2 start. Their challenging opponent against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday presents an uphill challenge.
Prior to the Ravens game, Las Vegas announced two roster changes on Saturday that could tighten up that run defense and add some depth.
On X, the Raiders PR department said that cornerback Sam Webb and defensive end K’Lavon Chaisson had been activated off the practice squad.
Chaisson, who the Jacksonville Jaguars selected with the 20th overall choice in the 2020 draft, is in his debut season with the Raiders after the Jags let him go this summer following a complete 17-game schedule that saw him record only two sacks.
The Raiders will be looking to capitalize on some of the promise that landed him so highly picked. He has five sacks in 57 games over his career.
Despite not playing in a regular season the previous year, Webb was an undrafted free agent who played all 17 games for the Raiders in 2022, recording 36 tackles and one forced fumble.
With Derrick Henry and Lamar Jackson in the run game on Sunday, Vegas will need all the assistance it can get. Both players will be eager to win after falling to the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 1 by a toenail.
This squad needs Chaisson and Webb to contribute and remain on the active roster, if the first week was any guide.
