Going into the 2024–25 NBA season, Klay Thompson has high expectations for his new club after making a significant offseason transfer from Golden State to Dallas. Thompson talked about his predictions for the season and his opinions on it. He spoke, let’s hear him out.
Mavericks Klay Thompson Gives Confident Season Forecast
Klay Thompson Sees Good Things Ahead
If all goes according to plan in Big D, the Mavericks’ summer purchase of Klay Thompson might end up being the offseason signing of the year. Throughout the previous season, there was a lot of discussion and attention focused on Thompson’s future with the Golden State Warriors. Thompson may now play with Kyrie Irving and Luka Dončić after he joined the Mavericks. Five or so years ago, this bunch would have continued the NBA’s “big three” ethos. Even while Irving and Thompson’s current career points make them less of a danger today, they still have the potential to be a real threat in the West with Luka.
Grant Afseth of the Dallas Hoop Journal reports that Klay Thompson is optimistic about the Mavericks’ prospects in a deep, congested Western Conference.”Dirk Nowitzki
He remarked, “I’m excited; this is a whole new chapter in my career that could be really special.” We were only three victories away from a title last year, so I believe we have what it takes to succeed. All we need to do is stick together and progress week by week. I’m here early to get a sense of the city and the terrain because I know we can achieve something amazing. And I’m enjoying myself in the process.”
Bonding with Mavs Past and Present
One thing that Klay Thompson had in common when living in San Francisco as a Warrior was his love of boats. His enjoyment of being on the water hasn’t diminished despite relocating to Dallas. Thompson gave a boat excursion to Catalina to a few of his new teammates during their summer training in Los Angeles. Additionally, Klay Thompson recently hung out with J.J. Barea, Steve Nash, and Dirk Nowitzki. In celebration of Nowitzki’s foundation, the foursome took part in the “Dirk Nowitzki Foundation Tennis Classic,” a friendly tennis match.
Thompson appears to be adjusting to life anew after an 11-year tenure with the Warriors with relative ease. The Mavs teammates have welcomed his presence with open arms.
Klay’s Impact this Season
In Thompson’s case, the previous season wasn’t all that bad. He made 38.7% of his field goals from three, where he averaged 17.9 points. For several other NBA players, such figures may constitute a career year. Just that Klay Thompson hadn’t averaged fewer than 20 points since the 2014–15 campaign, during his heyday as Steph Curry’s fellow splash brother. Therefore, it seems sense that 17 points per game is a low year by Thompson’s norms. The Warriors had a difficult campaign from beginning to end.
Nevertheless, Thompson’s belief in the Mavericks was demonstrated when they lured him to Dallas to play with Irving and Dončić. In Dallas, I detect a new Klay Thompson. Kyrie and Luka are both superb passers and providers of assists. It’s possible that they will all work together to set Thompson up for spot-up threes or off-the-ball shots this season.
There is no doubt about it: Klay Thompson, now a Maverick, feels that he and his new team can contend with the best in the West and that something exceptional is in the works.
