Early on, we’d been told that Richie Smith, our close friend and supporter of Newcastle United, had passed away unexpectedly.

He was just in his midsixties, so tragic.

I can never fully express what a wonderful man Richie was. A few Sunday dinners were painfully postponed while the boys assembled.

The enormity of what had transpired dawned on me when I noticed tears forming in the eyes of former Toronto goalie Tony Bell. After all, Tony is, to put it mildly, one hell of a so and so.

After breaking the terrible news to the staff at the Co-op in Tynemouth Village, young Edd and I went to the club.

I was completely distracted at the moment, not thinking about Newcastle’ Supers Sunday match versus Wolves at Molineux.

As I always do on Sundays, I had some cràic with old Ralphy after a few beers and we spoke about Sunderland’s loss to Plymouth Argyle the day before. Ralphy concurred with me that his squad lacks sufficient experience to be considered competitively at this early level.

In other news, Erling Haaland continues to be unstoppable as Pep’s Manchester City win at the Etihad on Saturday. He has extraordinary talent.

The majority of you would concur that watching both of the scouse sides lose in the Premier League this past weekend was both entertaining and welcome.

For me, Villa’s comeback from a two-goal deficit to overcome the unfortunate Scouse Mackems was unquestionably the lesser of two evils. When these lucky bleeders are finally demoted, I will be overjoyed.

Nothing makes me happier than to see Liverpool lose at Anfield, along with their conceited and incredibly condescending followers. I have hated the song “You’ll never walk alone” my entire life—it’s such a cringeworthy toe-curler. So congratulations to Nottingham Forest under Nuno Espirito Santo for silence.

I don’t think well of Ten Hag’s Manchester United, even though they prevailed against Southampton. The real United should finish this season at least ten points ahead of them, in my opinion.

The same is true for Chelsea, who defeated Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium with a late goal. They are not unique.

It was expected that Arsenal will defeat their lesser local rivals Spurs in the earlier Sunday kickoff.

My grandson and daughter had already picked Little Edd up by the time our game rolled around. I had been rooting for us to win this entire week.

Newcastle United has never had an easy time playing at Molineux, and the black country boys are always up for a good old-fashioned Geordie challenge.

Eddie was courageous enough to make the required alterations despite trailing 1-0 at the interval.

In the last 15 minutes, we scored two goals, both of which were expertly executed. Harvey Barnes and Fabian Schar are both such amazing players.

We are still undefeated and have gained three crucial points; ten points from our first four league games is more than acceptable.

It was reasonable that I didn’t get as many calls after the game as I typically do.

Newcastle United was tipped by Big Richie to be among the top four teams in the Premier League this year. When Eddie and the Hotrods wrecked havoc in the 2022–2023 season, he came out on top.

I hope we’re headed in the right direction and don’t see any obstacles to doing it again this season.

I finally had my late Sunday meal and saluted my late comrade by turning on some vinyl. There was Matchbox, Hank Mizell, and the Stray Cats.

You will always be a Rockabilly Rebel and a Newcastle United supporter, Richie Smith. You will be sorely missed by all of us.
