Andy Carroll will begin a new chapter in his career with a fourth-tier team, three years after leaving Newcastle United.

Andy Carroll rose through the youth levels to become one of Newcastle United’s all-time greatest academy players.

He was raised in Gateshead and played primarily in black and white before making his senior squad debut in 2006.

Supporters of Newcastle remember Carroll with fondness for his two spells with the team, during which he scored 34 goals in 134 appearances.

The towering striker was the most expensive British footballer of all time for five years at St. James’ Park until sealing a £35 million move to Liverpool in 2011.

After rejoining the team in 2019, he spent just two seasons with Newcastle under Steve Bruce, scoring just one goal before leaving in 2021.

Andy Carroll set to join eighth club of his career

Carroll never managed to reach the level of play he did during his first stint at Newcastle. He had difficulties at Liverpool, and he has had ongoing injury issues ever since.

Carroll, who is 35 years old, isn’t planning to put up his boots and is about to make an unusual decision to play for an eighth different team.

He recently played for West Brom and Reading, but in 2023 he moved to Amiens, a French team.

Carroll is expected to stay in France but move down to Bordeaux’s fourth division in order to play for them, according to the French publication L’Equipe.

The French team filed for bankruptcy and was just demoted to the fourth division. They will now attempt to return to the top of the league and are hoping Carroll can assist them in doing so.

Andy Carroll will play alongside Amadou Diallo

Bordeaux also signed Amadou Diallo this summer as they attempt to assemble a roster capable of leading them back to the top division.

Newcastle United let Diallo go in the summer after he made only one senior appearance for the team.

After making an impression in West Ham’s youth, Diallo joined Newcastle in 2021 but was never able to lock down a starting position.

Carroll will pair up with Diallo at Bordeaux in the 2024–2025 season.
