Kevin Campbell, a former striker for Everton and Arsenal, had his life honored on Wednesday during a funeral ceremony close to Goodison Park.
At the age of 54, the well-known frontman who later became a media personality passed away in June. An inquest heard testimony indicating that a heart infection caused multi-organ failure.
Many former teammates attended Campbell’s burial in London last month, as the football community showed their affection for him following his passing.
On Wednesday, Everton arranged a memorial ceremony at St. Luke’s Church, which is located next to Goodison Park, to honor his life.
previous Everton players Graham Stuart, Ian Snodin, and Francis Jeffers were among the guests, as was Campbell’s son Tyrese, a player for Sheffield United, and his previous wife Faye.
Another attendee at the event, Everton legend Peter Reid, remarked, “He was a wonderful, wonderful human being.”
“He had a smile that just lit up everywhere and that’s Kevin Campbell.”
“I mean besides being brilliant for Everton, and obviously the Arsenal, Forest, West Brom, he was just a great geezer.”
“Honest to God, he was one of the nicest fellas you could ever meet and I was proud to have some time with him and call him a friend.”
Following an emotional ceremony, former Everton teammate David Unsworth shared same feelings.
“That was a fantastic, an amazing service,” he commented. A suitable conclusion when ‘Z-Cars’ was released. Although it was a difficult time, the service was wonderful for a wonderful man.”
A very remarkable individual. He was a legend at this football club, nothing to do with his game. Without a doubt.
“He was simply a wonderful man. These days, it seems like everyone says, “He’s a great man, a great guy.”
“Kevin Campbell was a great man and we’ll all miss him very much.”
