Sources close to Newcastle United have told Football Insider that the team is interested in making a move for breakout English player Angel Gomes.
The Magpies are reportedly among a number of English teams with a “concrete interest” in the Lille midfield player.
Gomes recently played in matches against Finland and Ireland after being called up for the first time by interim manager Lee Carsley.
Because of his efforts in those games, he has gained more recognition at home, and the 24-year-old may soon be making a comeback to the Premier League.
Clubs reportedly over Europe are keeping an eye on the circumstances surrounding the Man United academy graduate.
At the conclusion of the 2024–2025 season, Gomes’ contract with Lille is scheduled to expire.
Gomes is a Newcastle target after England breakthrough
He has already contributed to the French team’s qualification for the Champions League’s league stage with five appearances this season.
The London-born star, who has been a fixture for Lille since signing four years ago, can play in both offensive and defensive midfield.
Gomes, who represented England in the Under-17 World Cup and Under-21 European Championships, is a target for a number of Premier League teams, including Newcastle.
In the 2024–25 season, the Magpies will not play on the continent, so if more seasoned teams show a stronger interest in the player, they may lose out.
