Newcastle United were awful against Fulham, as their unbeaten start to the Premier League season came to an end. The Magpies lost 3-1 at Craven Cottage, with Eddie Howe‘s players producing yet another disappointing performance.

In terms of points, Newcastle United have started the season really well. However, the performances have left a lot to be desired. The hope was that the performance would match the result on Saturday, with Newcastle boasting the chance to go top of the Premier League. In this instance, the performance did match the result. Sadly, it was a terrible display that ended with Newcastle picking up zero points.

Alan Shearer reflects on ‘awful’ Newcastle performance against Fulham

Alan Shearer predicted that Fulham and Newcastle will draw before the game. Unfortunately, the Toon icon was wrong, and he has given a rather harsh assessment of the performance at Craven Cottage.

Alan Shearer responded to Newcastle’s 3-1 loss to Fulham on his official X account as soon as the last whistle blew.

“That was awful from Newcastle,” he wrote on X. received what was just. Fulham is far superior.

Newcastle United were extremely poor against Fulham

Newcastle United’s luck had to run out sooner or later.

There were moments during the season when Newcastle performed admirably against Fulham. After Harvey Barnes pulled one back, there was a brief uptick in the second half. Barnes, who has had a strong start to the season, scored his third goal of the year.

But the negative much exceeded the positive. In the first half, Newcastle’s midfield was virtually nonexistent as they struggled to generate opportunities.

In between the posts, Nick Pope was far too preoccupied, and he let Fulham’s second goal go away.

All in all, Newcastle United had a really bad afternoon.

Newcastle have an immediate chance to bounce back

Fortunately, the Magpies have a little window of time to recover and restore their self-assurance. Tuesday night marks Newcastle’s return to action as they take on AFC Wimbledon at Plough Lane in the Carabao Cup third round.

Despite the fact that it is a match against League Two opponents, a win is not assured. Newcastle will need to exert a great deal of effort to defeat the fourth-tier team, who eliminated Ipswich Town in the previous round.

However, Newcastle has a decent chance to turn things around so quickly following such an unsettling display.

Howe has to correct this in the cup by midweek, particularly because Manchester City will be visiting St. James’ Park on Saturday.
