After a terrible start, Everton has a fantastic opportunity later today to finally get their Premier League campaign off to a strong start.
Sean Dyche’s team has lost all four of its league openers, and they are still buried at the bottom of the standings.
With a struggling Leicester City team in their sights on Saturday afternoon, the Toffees have no room for excuses.
But after blowing a two-goal lead in their last two games, they have a lot of work to do if they are to recover from their early-season slump.
With John Textor’s takeover offer for Everton progressing, there might be some more encouraging news announced after the game.
But even though Everton appeared to have a successful summer of recruitment activity, their dismal start to the season has already thrust them into the relegation debate.
What Tony Cascarino is now saying about Everton
As of right now, the Toffees are the only team in the 2024–2025 Premier League to have not scored a point.
Even while there are some encouraging things to come out of the recent losses, the Blues are having a lot of trouble producing the desired results.
Even though the previous season ended well, it appears that all of that development has been lost as pressure mounts on Dyche.
Speaking on TalkSPORT [21/9 @ 7:15 am], Tony Cascarino has now acknowledged that he believes Everton will struggle this season based on what he has witnessed.
For the first time ever, he remarked, “I think Everton could go this season.”
“I’ve always believed that Sean Dyche’s team will be competitive due to the way they play and the caliber of players they have. I don’t mean to suggest that they are the best players in the world, but rather that they play in a very practical manner and have a lot of Premier League experience under their belts.
That should hold them in for now, I assumed. This year, I don’t feel like that. It will definitely be difficult for Everton to stay in the Premier League, in my opinion.
Everton cannot afford to be relegated
This is definitely not the season that Everton wants to be relegated, even though additional investment may be on the horizon at Goodison Park.
The Toffees will not be using Championship football to help pay for their new stadium, which they want to move into this summer.
Despite the terrible start on Merseyside, it appears that Textor is not deterred by the American’s continued attempts to acquire the team.
To give the supporters some optimism, though, Everton will need to perform well against Leicester on Saturday afternoon.
