Paul Merson claims that despite the two teams’ disparate league standings, Tottenham Hotspur has performed better than Newcastle this season.
Spurs have just one win in four games
Newcastle are currently sitting in third place in the Premier League table, having won three and drawn one of their first four league games, with the Magpies looking like they might battle it out for a top-four finish this season.
Spurs, on the other hand, have only accumulated four points from four games after losing their previous two.
Eddie Howe’s team defeated Tottenham 2-1 at St. James’ Park, making them pay for their wasted opportunities and adding a pair of goals in the second half.
Paul Merson leaps to Tottenham’s defence
With Ange Postecoglou receiving a lot of flak, Spurs appear to be in a dire situation despite the fact that the new season has just been going for a little over a month.
Merson, on the other hand, thinks that not much separates Tottenham and Newcastle and feels that the Lilywhites have really performed better this season.
“Tottenham are not a million miles away, they’re not a million miles away,” the former Arsenal player said to Sky Sports. They’ve performed better than Newcastle this season—I know that seems ridiculous—but Newcastle hasn’t lost yet.
