Arne Engels cost Celtic a club record £11 million, but Chris Sutton believes the player is a steal for the team.

The midfielder’s early performances in green and white have surprised the former Hoops center forward turned pundit.

Last Saturday, the Belgian made his Bhoys debut against Hearts and scored from the penalty spot with poise.

Then, in the UEFA Champions League midweek, Engels was called up and once again looked impressive, setting up Liam Scales for the game’s first goal against Slovan Bratislava and then giving Celtic a 3-0 lead with another brilliant penalty.

The former Augsburg player was included in Sofascore’s Champions League Team of the Week even though he most likely ought to have earned Man of the Match.

He appears to be a good addition initially, and his early performances have been exceptional.

Sutton thinks Celtic made a solid buy in acquiring Engels, even if the club paid a premium for the player in comparison to what other teams have paid for certain players this summer.

According to RecordSport, Engels stated, “Any scouts or spies in the stands or tuning in [on Wednesday] would have looked at Engels and felt £11m was a bargain.”

In the future, Celtic will get a high price when it sells.

Nonetheless, he is still just 21 and has a lot of growing up to do.

The number 27 is already sparkling despite his young age, so it will be interesting to watch how he develops throughout his time in Glasgow.
It speaks in terms of Europe. Some teams, like Brentford, invested £30 million on Igor Thiago, while Ipswich Town paid twice as much for Omari Hutchinson as Engels. While Celtic’s spending is more than that of Bratislava, it is still pitiful when compared to teams like Borussia Dortmund.Engels is obviously manipulating things, though. He has exceptional physicality and skill with the ball. He seemed to have been in with the bricks for a long time despite barely being in the door.

“With him on dead balls, Celtic even appear dangerous from corner kicks for the first time in club history.

Though he still has a ways to go before receiving a big-money offer, he already seems like the ideal fit for Celtic’s strategy of purchasing prospects and developing them to the fullest extent possible.

Engels seems like a different player, but fans won’t want to wish him away just yet.
