Football Insider has been informed by insiders that Newcastle is more likely to fire Eddie Howe before parting ways with sports director Paul Mitchell.

Senior journalist Pete O’Rourke stated that there is “no thinking or process going on” when it comes to Howe’s future in an interview with Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast.

The 46-year-old English manager is seen to be “pretty safe” at St. James’ Park at the moment, and no other managers are being considered to take his position.

If there was going to be a big change, there has been chatter around the club that Mitchell, not Howe, would be the first to depart.

Howe and Mitchell’s relationship has become more tense recently, particularly in the wake of a disappointing summer transfer window.

Newcastle are set to back Eddie Howe

At the moment, Howe has “a lot of credit in the bank” at the team and the complete support of the Newcastle administration.

The North East Giants have dominated the season thus far, going unbeaten throughout the first stretch of play.

Howe is now focusing on working with the players he has available as the Magpies are in third position in the Premier League standings.

During the summer transfer window, Newcastle had made Marc Guehi their top priority, but they were unable to come to an agreement with Crystal Palace.
