Newcastle United, the EFL and Wimbledon are in talks about a new date for the Carabao Cup clash

The Wimbledon match against Newcastle United is expected to be rescheduled after the Plough Lane field was deemed “unplayable” by the Dons.

The two teams met this morning to discuss rescheduling the matchup for the third-round matchup against Newcastle, with the possibility of moving the match to St. James’ Park being discussed. That is unlikely to happen right away, though, considering the planning, ticketing, and security procedures required to set up the match.

“The rescheduled match must take place by a date that would reasonably allow the winning Club to participate in the following round on the scheduled date,” according to the Carabao Cup rules. The Management Committee will grant a bye in line with Rule 5.3 if the match cannot be rescheduled for a time when the winning Club can play in the next round. 5.5 Failure to complete any Competition Match will be deemed a violation of these Rules unless the Club can show that: 5.5.1 The occurrence of an incident (a “Event”) that was beyond the Club’s control was the main and effective cause of the non-fulfillment.

Before the match in London, there was noticeable flooding at Wimbledon on Monday morning, disappointing the fans. As a result, Eddie Howe, the manager of Newcastle, canceled his press conference.

Newcastle issued the following statement in response to the widespread flooding that occurred at the Cherry Red Records Stadium over night: “Tomorrow’s Carabao Cup tie against AFC Wimbledon has been postponed.” More information will be released when it becomes available.”

Wimbledon also stated: “We regret to inform fans that due to extensive overnight flooding of the River Wandle and surrounding areas, including at our stadium, our cup match tomorrow is postponed.”

We wish to perform well in this tournament. However, we wish to intensify our season. Our main goal is to deliver an excellent performance. We are aware that it is our responsibility to perform well in this game.”

Wimbledon and Newcastle are still in negotiations, although it could be difficult to fit the match in given that the Dons have a midweek match the following week. Over two decades have passed since Newcastle played Wimbledon, with the Magpies’ most recent meeting against the Dons coming in a 2-0 victory for the blue-and-whites during the Sir Bobby Robson era.

Since then, Wimbledon has had an amazing journey following a contentious franchise move to Milton Keynes, following which the club chose to rebuild from the ground up. However, the League Two team suffers a severe setback when their hopes of winning are ruined by the postponement due to stadium flooding.
