Changes Made to Team USA Roster for 2024 Motocross of Nations
There’s been a shakeup in Team USA’s rider roster for the 2024 Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) Motocross of Nations (MXoN).
First, Chance Hymas aggravated an existing knee injury at the first playoff round of the SuperMotocross World Championship at zMax Dragway in Concord, North Carolina. The Team Honda HRC Progressive rider is getting surgery on it rather quickly, which means he’ll miss the race. Filling his spot is Cooper Webb, who will compete aboard a YZ250F in the MX2 class.
Another Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing rider filling in for a fellow American is Eli Tomac. This comes as a result of Chase Sexton injuring his right hand in the opening moto of the SuperMotocross World Championship finale at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in Las Vegas. Tomac has answered the call to once again serve as team captain of Team USA and line up in the MXGP class.
The 2024 FIM Motocross of Nations is quickly approaching, as it’s scheduled to take place on October 4–6, so it won’t be long before riders and team members from around the world descend upon Matterley Basin in Winchester, United Kingdom, where the race will be held.
“It’s exciting that Cooper Webb will be representing the USA and Yamaha Racing at the Motocross of Nations this year aboard our YZ250F,” Yamaha racing department manager Jim Roach said. “Cooper has raced MXoN before, and his experience will be very beneficial to Team USA.
“Team USA’s MXoN rider lineup shuffled [again] on lap 1 Saturday night in Las Vegas when Chase [Sexton] was unfortunately injured. However, Eli is willing to step in and represent the USA and Yamaha Racing. Yamaha is excited to have both Eli and Cooper joining Aaron [Plessinger] for the 2024 MXoN lineup. This will be an exciting race!”
We’re excited to race the Motocross of Nations again and represent the USA. It’s also great to have Coop ride one of our 250s again. It’s been a while, but he was able to get some laps in and looked good. It was an unfortunate event that Chase [Sexton] was injured this past weekend at the SMX final. Eli was asked to join Cooper and AP (Aaron Plessinger), and he was willing to come on board on short notice. It’s going to take a lot of work from everyone on our team to make this happen, but Star Racing is happy to support both Eli and Cooper in this effort and represent our country at MXoN.” —Jeremy Coker, Monster Energy Yamaha Star
