Rangers are a “million miles away” still despite a pair of wins and new signing Nedim Bajrami won’t be the answer, according to Michael Stewart.
The commentator provided a lukewarm assessment the Albanian international on the Scottish Football Social Club for Premier Sports on 23 September, as he noted the 3-0 victory against Dundee two days previously was absolutely essential but Bajrami doesn’t appear like having the desired effect despite an assist.
When Darrell Currie asked Alan Hutton if the new manager had shown signs at Ibrox, Stewart appeared unconvinced. He responded, “Yeah! Come on Michael!” to which he replied, “The positive is it’s a good result but… there is an air of it never feels like it’s far away from serious pressure and a bit of a catastrophe could unfold.” He also shot down the idea that Philippe Clement’s team would bounce back from a poor start this season to challenge for anything.
“I have to admit, I still feel like Rangers are a million miles away. Although Bajrami appears to be a solid, technically sound player, you’re looking for someone who can make a significant impact, and he’s a key addition for Rangers this season.
“Do I believe he will have that? Not really. to the extent required if they are sincere about making a go of things. Not because he is a horrible player, but more because the supporters are anticipating a challenge. Regretfully, I don’t believe there is a significant gap between their expectations and where they are at. It doesn’t seem possible for them to get there.

To repair the damage causd by the loss at Ceeltic, more than a few convincing victories over Dundee United and Dundee are needed, but it’s a start.
Clement and the players are limited to maintaining their current winning streak against all opposition and preparing for the next Old Firm derby, where they hope to secure a much-needed victory.
There won’t be much chance of that based on the season’s thus far, but the last two games have at least brought much-needed serenity.
Bajrami has to perform as a £3.4 million permanent acquisition from Sassuolo [Sky Sports, August 30] during a transfer window where the budget was constrained, but after two games, the results are still inconclusive.
In a rather poor debut at Tannadice, the attacker was anonymous, but he looked better in his first start at Ibrox.
After permanently leaving FC Twente, Robin Propper has also not lived up to the hype thus far. Instead, young players like Connor Barron, new left-back Jefte, and Hamza Igamane have impressed the most.
For this season to be revived, the transfer haul will thus need to produce a higher aggregate return.
