Following the dismal loss at Fulham over the weekend, Eddie Howe had a meeting with a Newcastle executive.
According to rumors, Eddie Howe and Paul Mitchell have had open discussions to put the summer transfer market at Newcastle United behind them. Prior to openly criticizing certain aspects of the team’s prior hiring practices under Howe’s leadership, Mitchell took over as Newcastle’s sports director in July, succeeding Dan Ashworth.
His remarks led to rumors of hostility between the two, which were heightened when the manager of the Magpies recently acknowledged that they hadn’t talked since the interview.
After spending just under £60 million and missing out on their top target, Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, Newcastle had a terrible summer.
Furthermore, there have been hints that if a power struggle over recruiting persisted, Mitchell might leave St. James’ Park before Howe.
However, i add that Newcastle have refuted such suggestions, with the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) wanting the duo to operate in unity at the top of the club’s football hierarchy.
According to reports, Howe and Mitchell have since had fruitful talks, and club officials are certain that any disagreements have been resolved.
According to the article, Howe has approved of Mitchell’s proposed adjustments to recruiting. Mitchell has met often with academy director Steve Harper and women’s manager Becky Langley.
Additionally, he has met with the club’s scouting network and plans to use a more data-driven approach to work on Tyneside.
Newcastle’s 3-1 loss to Fulham at Craven Cottage on Saturday was their first Premier League loss of the year.
Howe’s side have won three times and drew once in their other four league encounters and scraped past Nottingham Forest on penalties in the Carabao Cup.
However, he has expressed his dissatisfaction with the performances. Manchester City will be the next team to play, with an early kickoff on Saturday.
Newcastle’s performance against Fulham was referred to as “rotten” by Alan Shearer, who also clarified that the alleged falling out between Howe and Mitchell off the field was causing issues on the field.
Performances on the field will be impacted if that isn’t resolved in some way, as it usually is.
“Whatever happens off the pitch in terms of the boardroom or whatever, it eventually comes down and that needs to be sorted out.”
With the matter purportedly resolved, Newcastle can now concentrate on making sure that their loss at Craven Cottage does not signal the beginning of a slide following their encouraging early performances.
