Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi, who were guests of Spurs during Brentford’s visit last weekend, are in advanced discussions to purchase a sizable interest in the north London club following a sad exit from Newcastle.
Before the year ends, Amanda Staveley plans to re-enter the Premier League by funding Tottenham with money from the Middle East.
The financier assisted in arranging Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund’s £305 million acquisition of Newcastle alongside her husband, Mehrdad Ghodoussi. However, following a difficult exit from St. James’, the two, who were guests of Spurs during Brentford’s visit last weekend, are in advanced negotiations to purchase a sizable share in the north London team.
Tottenham is searching for fresh funding as a result of former majority stakeholder Joe Lewis’s waning influence over the team. It’s anticipated that Staveley and Ghodoussi would purchase a portion of the billionaire Lewis’s shares, which are now kept in a family trust.
“Amanda is serious about being involved with Spurs, and is hoping that an initial purchase can be completed within weeks,” stated a person close to the negotiations.
She has successfully convinced Saudi Arabia’s PIF to invest in Newcastle, and now she is looking to the Middle East once more for financial support. Following the Saudi takeover, Staveley and Ghodoussi had nearly three years of significant boardroom power until bowing out of Newcastle in the summer.
The Toon Army, who had become close to the two and were ardent fans of well-liked manager Eddie Howe, was devastated. Following alterations to the PIF structure, Ghodoussi and Staveley departed, with the 51-year-old Staveley expressing, “I am devastated.” The club has ingrained itself into my being.
Earlier this summer, Staveley had not disclosed any information on a possible deal, but she later stated that she was willing to invest in another Premier League team. She stated: “My preference would have been to stay with Newcastle, but life doesn’t always work out exactly how you want it to,” as reported by The Athletic. There is nothing that can match that.
I couldn’t help but fall in love with Newcastle—the city, the team, and the people—but I didn’t want to stand in Newcastle’s way. The best interests of Newcastle must come first.
Both Mehrdad and I are eager to participate. We’re hardworking individuals, I enjoy being active and engaged, and I’m a huge football fan. We must, regretfully, move on to other endeavors, some of which may require us to purchase or invest in another club, which will be challenging. However, it is feasible.
